Après un séjour chez des amis en Allemagne pour que mon tendon d'Achille enflammé puisse se reposer, j'ai repris doucement la Via Francigena à Saint Quentin. Les premiers jours j'ai marché sous une petite canicule, cependant je la préfère aux journées mouillées et pluvieuses ! Au début je me sentais que je reculais, car j'ai pris le train sud à Reims pour aller vers Allemagne, et sur mon retour il me semblait que la route de 130km entre Reims et Saint Quentin était énorme, même aux roues ! Mais je reconnais que je suis mon chemin, et je ne marche pas toute seule: il y a des centaines ou peut-etre des miliers de pèlerins francigènes en avance et derrière moi.
La Via suit le canal Saint Quentin moustiqueux, et j'avais pour compagnie de majestueux hérons bleu-gris, des bébés poules d'eau duveteuses, et plein de canards. Je suis actuellement entre Tergnier et Laon, une étape longue sans services, donc je porte la bouffe pour deux ou trois jours solitaires dans la pleine campagne !

After a pleasant detour via Germany to rest my inflamed Achilles heel, I picked up the Via again in Saint Quentin where I had left it three weeks ago. I caught the end of the heatwave the first couple of days, but I much prefer this to damp rainy weather. At first I felt that I was going backwards on myself, having already travelled ahead by train to Reims, and onwards to Germany. When I returned, the 130km distance between Reims and Saint Quentin seemed huge, even on wheels! But I realise that I am on my own path, and there are hundreds or thousands of pilgrims ahead and behind me.
The Via followed the Saint Quentin canal, and I was accompanied by beautiful blue-grey herons, six fluffy moorchicks, and lots of mallard ducks. I am now between Tergnier and Laon, a long stretch with no services. I'm carrying enough food for 2-3 days, and relishing the freedom of carrying my home on my back.
